Welcome to the Kašperk v kostce website

At Fügnerova Street No. 36 in Kašperské Hory, we are preparing a unique exhibition dedicated to the history of the town and its surroundings. The exhibition will feature a six-meter model of Kašperk Castle, medieval gold mining, the world of gnomes, important historical events, battles, myths, and legends—all made from LEGO bricks.
There will also be a themed shop with building sets and figurines on the ground floor. The whole house will come alive with the world of LEGO® — not only for children, but also for parents and grandparents. You will find QR codes with additional information, stories, and interesting facts next to the exhibits.

Kašperk v kostce

We expect the exhibition to open in January 2027. By the way, what does “Kašperk v kostce” mean, and what does the expression “v kostce” mean?
“V kostce” could be translated into English as “in brief” or “in one place.”
In addition, the word “kostka” itself means building block, so it has a connection to building sets.

Preparations...

Below you will find preliminary previews of the interior design and a taste of the exhibits currently in development. We are delighted that the leading architecture and design studio MIRAMARI DESIGN is assisting us with the interior design.

Interactive elements

The entire exhibition will feature interactive elements: sound and light effects, LCD panels with animations and language versions. QR codes will provide additional information about the exhibit, historical information, and interesting facts.

Entertainment or education? Both!

As visitors, you will be able to walk through the exhibition just for fun. If you wish, you will find either an LCD panel or a QR code next to each exhibit, where you can learn more about the history or legend that the model represents. The exhibition is therefore also suitable for school trips. Our goal is for pupils and students to acquire some basic knowledge in a non-coercive way, e.g., who built Kašperk Castle, when and why, what was the ethnic composition of the region, how the Czech Kingdom was constituted over the centuries, etc.
In life, we remember best what is connected with our emotions, and LEGO® and other building sets are all about emotions! :o)

Gold mining in Šumava

The town of Kašperské Hory was founded as a mining town and gained its wealth from gold mining. The fact that our exhibition features a medieval gold mining scene built from LEGO® bricks does not mean that we support contemporary gold mining or attempts to do so. On the contrary: we strictly reject any current efforts to resume gold mining in the Šumava Mountains. The greatest treasure we have here is nature.
